# I'm done with terminals

**[Theo - t3․gg](https://daily.dev/sources/t3dotgg)** · 31 min read · 7 upvotes · 2 comments

## Summary

A developer known for building T3 Code argues that terminals are no longer the ideal interface for AI-assisted coding, describing his personal shift from tmux-based terminal workflows to graphical agent management tools like the Codex app and his own open-source project, T3 Code. He recounts frustrations with SSH reliability, mobile coding, and juggling multiple AI coding sessions across terminals, and explains how switching to a GUI-based, remote-controllable agent manager increased his shipped PRs from a few per week to as many as 20 per day. The piece also covers the backstory of building T3 Code with a co-founder who never used terminals, and pitches new features like tailscale pairing and mobile/web remote control.

## Questions this post answers

### Why would someone stop using tmux and SSH for running Claude Code and Codex agents?

Managing many concurrent AI coding agents across tmux panes and SSH sessions creates heavy mental overhead: tracking which hotkey maps to which project, losing sessions after reboots, and dealing with SSH instability (dropped connections, sticky keys on unreliable Wi-Fi). A graphical interface with named projects, clickable threads, image pasting, and persistent remote sessions removes that overhead, especially once running more than two or three agents at once.

### Can Claude Code and Codex be used through a third-party open-source GUI instead of their official terminal or desktop apps?

Yes, T3 Code is an open-source graphical interface that runs Claude Code and Codex through their official agent SDKs (not unofficial hacks), letting a single subscription to either provider be used inside one unified app with work trees, image pasting, and remote or mobile control, including the ability to close a laptop and keep an agent running on another machine.

_Anyone deciding between agent CLIs and GUIs can track tools like this shaping AI coding workflows on daily.dev._

### How can I keep an AI coding agent running after closing my laptop or losing internet connection?

Running the agent on a separate machine you control remotely, rather than locally over SSH, avoids the problem entirely: closing the laptop or losing Wi-Fi no longer kills the task. T3 Code enables this by exposing a websocket-based remote control layer, plus a mobile app and commands like npx t3 connect, so a task started on one machine keeps running and can be checked or continued from a phone or another computer.

_Developers hitting dropped agent sessions on flaky connections can follow workflow fixes like this on daily.dev._

> Same here. I've been using these really cool applications that let you see the code AND talk to an agent _at the same time!_ It's a real trip to see the agent at work and be able to verify it's outputs all in the same window. I've been referring to them as these sort of "integrated development environments". I am sure they're going to be hugely popular!
