# I ran Windows 11 from an SD card, and it's faster than you'd think

**[XDA Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/xda-developers)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Running Windows 11 from an SD card using Rufus's Windows To Go option is surprisingly viable. The setup takes over two hours to install but handles everyday tasks like web browsing, app installs, and file transfers adequately. Boot times after the first attempt are under a minute, and performance is acceptable on a fast SD card. Minor issues like external monitor detection appeared but resolved on their own. While not a replacement for a primary drive, it works well as a portable or emergency Windows environment.
