# I set up Windows To Go on a portable SSD, and it's good enough to serve as my daily driver

**[XDA Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/xda-developers)** · 6 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

A hands-on experiment running Windows 11 via Windows To Go on a portable NVMe SSD connected via USB. Using Rufus to flash the drive, the setup completed initial configuration in ~5 minutes, ran demanding games like Dead Space Remake and Helldivers 2 at playable framerates, and successfully booted on multiple different PCs with only minor driver reinstallation needed. Performance was far superior to a traditional USB flash drive, making it a viable portable Windows environment for Linux-primary setups.
