# I switched to an AI browser that runs its own local LLM, and I'm not going back to Perplexity or Chrome

## Summary

Sigma is a Chromium-based browser that ships with a built-in local LLM called Eclipse, powered by llama.cpp, so AI chat works offline without sending prompts to the cloud. It offers three interaction modes on every new tab: standard search, AI chat, and an agent mode for multi-step browser automation. The AI chat workspace resembles Claude or ChatGPT with a sidebar, history, projects, and mode presets like Summarize, Deep Research, and Create Image. A Canvas Design skill can generate UI mockups from prompts. For agent tasks, Eclipse alone isn't enough — you need to connect a cloud API (Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, etc.) or point it at a local model. Sigma also bundles privacy features including an ad blocker, tracker protection, DNS-over-HTTPS, anti-fingerprinting, end-to-end encrypted chats, and a built-in VPN. Compared to Brave's Leo AI, Sigma bundles everything out of the box rather than requiring Ollama setup.
