Recent VS Code releases (1.129 and 1.130) introduced a dedicated Agent Host Protocol supporting multiple AI agents including Copilot, Claude, and Codex, eliminating the main selling point of forks. The BYOK (bring-your-own-key) feature and Ollama integration further reduce the need to switch. The main remaining advantage of forks is Cursor's next-edit prediction Tab feature and faster shipping cycles.
