# I tested the same GPU with JEDEC and EXPO RAM, and the performance gap shocked me more than any GPU upgrade could

**[XDA Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/xda-developers)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

DDR5 RAM kits ship running at JEDEC baseline speeds by default, not the advertised speeds. Enabling AMD EXPO or Intel XMP in the BIOS unlocks the rated performance at no cost. Benchmark tests across multiple games show gains ranging from 7.8% in Forza Horizon 6 to a striking 42% uplift in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The gains vary by how CPU/memory-bound a title is. Manual overclocking beyond XMP/EXPO specs is generally not recommended due to stability risks and marginal returns.
