IBM has joined OpenAI's Daybreak Cyber Partner Program and launched an AI-powered application-security service that uses OpenAI's models to find and validate software vulnerabilities faster than traditional scanners. The service, delivered through IBM Consulting Advantage, operates inside client environments with read-only code access to avoid false positives and reduce alert fatigue. IBM is also backing Project Lightwell, a $5bn initiative with Red Hat targeting open-source supply chain security using frontier AI models. The moves come as AI is increasingly used both offensively and defensively in cybersecurity, with competitors like Google and Anthropic also deploying AI for vulnerability discovery.
