# Icasa promises business as usual through strike

**[TechCentral](https://daily.dev/sources/techcentral)** · 3 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

South Africa's communications regulator Icasa has assured the public that all services will continue normally when Nehawu union members begin a protected strike on Thursday, 6 August, following the collapse of cost-of-living adjustment negotiations for the 2026/27 financial year. Icasa unilaterally implemented a 4.5% salary increase after talks failed and a CCMA certificate of non-resolution was issued. The regulator has ordered all non-striking staff back to offices, introduced attendance monitoring and a no-work-no-pay policy for strikers. Questions about specific regulatory functions — including licensing, spectrum work, and consumer complaints — were not individually addressed by Icasa.
