Facing extreme logistical challenges — no roads, fly-in-only access, subarctic terrain — the nonprofit used GPON architecture and coherent optics to deliver 250 Mb/s connections to roughly 1,000 homes at CA $4,700 per household. Compared to Starlink and legacy wireless providers, WJBTN's fiber delivers dramatically lower latency (12 ms vs. ~60 ms for satellite).
