Temporal Cloud has reached General Availability for two cost transparency features: the Cloud Billing API and the Billable Action Count metric. The Billing API provides namespace- and tag-level cost attribution at hourly granularity, accessible via the Cloud Ops API, CSV download, and integrations with Datadog Cloud Cost Management and Vantage. The Billable Action Count metric offers action-type usage data down to one-minute granularity via the OpenMetrics endpoint. Internally, the Billing API is powered by Temporal Workflows using signals, child workflows, and workflow ID reuse policies to handle request queuing and global rate limiting. Real-time namespace tags allow retroactive cost attribution, solving the problem of missing tags affecting historical billing data.
