Reliance Jio, India's dominant telco with 514 million subscribers, has announced a $110 billion, seven-year plan to build AI datacenter infrastructure. Chairman Mukesh Ambani aims to replicate the company's mobile market strategy — extreme affordability and massive scale — in the AI space, arguing that compute scarcity and cost are the biggest constraints in AI today. Jio also announced a partnership with OpenAI to bundle its search service into Jio products. Separately, OpenAI formalized its India presence and partnered with Tata Group for sovereign AI infrastructure starting at 100MW, potentially scaling to 1GW. The announcements came at India's AI Impact Summit, attended by global tech leaders including Sam Altman and Sundar Pichai.
