# Intel Foundry lands first named customer: Fortinet

**[The Next Web](https://daily.dev/sources/tnw)** · 3 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Intel Foundry has announced its first publicly named external customer under CEO Lip-Bu Tan: Fortinet, the network security company. Fortinet will use Intel's Intel 4 process node to build its next-generation Security Processor 6 (SP6), a custom ASIC powering its FortiGate firewalls. Intel will handle chip design, advanced packaging, and manufacturing. The deal is notable because Intel 4 has previously been reserved for Intel's own products, and because Fortinet was previously a TSMC customer. However, the win comes with caveats: Intel 4 is not Intel's most advanced node, no production timeline or specs have been disclosed, and the revenue is modest relative to the multi-billion-dollar anchor customer Intel still needs for its 18A and 14A processes. The announcement comes two days before Intel's quarterly earnings report.
