Open source projects vs. SaaS companies that seek to commercialize software without contributing to that software seems to be the issue time and again and different people deal with it in different ways. Open core models seem to work well if the features reserved for the commercial version tend to be advanced features that ordinary users wouldn't need but business customers would be excited about.
