A personal recap of JCrete 2026, an annual Java unconference held in Crete, Greece. The author reflects on the unconference format where attendees collectively shape the agenda, describes the mix of technical sessions and social activities (beach excursions, runs, hikes, diving), and highlights the food experience including a traditional Cretan evening and a barbecue that had to be adapted due to extreme dry conditions and fire risk.
