The CNCF Technical Oversight Committee has voted to accept K8gb (Kubernetes Global Balancer) as a CNCF incubating project. K8gb is an open source Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) solution for Kubernetes that enables application availability and disaster recovery across multiple clusters and geographic regions using CoreDNS, ExternalDNS, and standard Kubernetes APIs. Since joining the CNCF sandbox in March 2021, the project has grown to 239 contributors, 105 contributing organizations, and 1,197 GitHub stars. Notable adopters include Millennium bcp, Portugal's largest privately owned bank, which achieved 99.99% uptime on critical banking applications. The roadmap includes complex multi-region traffic routing, advanced observability, and deeper service mesh integration.
