# KAIST and Stanford unveil clothing that climbs onto its wearer

**[The Next Web](https://daily.dev/sources/tnw)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Researchers from KAIST and Stanford University have developed SWAG (Self-Wearing Adaptive Garments), a soft robotic clothing system that dresses its wearer autonomously. Inspired by vine robot mechanics, the garment uses internal inflatable tubes called subvines that evert (unroll) along the limb, pulling fabric onto the body with minimal friction. This approach avoids the need for rigid robotic arms or precise body tracking, making it gentler and more adaptable for elderly or disabled users. Prototypes include sleeves, jackets, and trousers. The research was published in IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters and won the Best Paper Award at ICRA 2025.
