KaOS Linux has released its first release candidate ISO using Dinit as the init system and service manager, replacing systemd's role as the primary init. The switch was driven by upstream systemd changes that broke KaOS's split /usr setup and AUFS compatibility, combined with KDE Plasma's growing systemd dependency. The new stack pairs Dinit with Turnstile for session management and seatd for seat management. However, KaOS is not going fully systemd-free — udev, tmpfiles, and elogind remain in place. Other changes in the RC include replacing SDDM with greetd/tuigreet, switching to the Limine bootloader, updating the Calamares installer for pure Wayland sessions, and adding a new welcome utility called Croeso. The RC is available for download but is not intended for everyday use.
