Keychron has announced ZGM (Zephyr Gaming Mouse), an open source firmware project for gaming mice built on Zephyr RTOS and licensed under GPL-3.0. The firmware will debut with the Keychron G6 HE mouse, expected to launch between January and March 2027. Currently in early development with only scaffolding in the repository, the roadmap covers wired support first, then wireless, sensors, buttons, lighting, and battery management. Linux users stand to benefit most, as most gaming mice lack official Linux configuration software, forcing users to rely on community reverse-engineering tools. If ZGM gains traction, it could bring QMK-style deep customization to mice on Linux, similar to what ZMK and QMK have achieved for keyboards.
