# Khronos Lists First Conformant OpenCL 3.1 Implementation: Apple M1/M2 On Asahi Linux With Rusticl

**[Phoronix](https://daily.dev/sources/phoronix)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Apple Silicon M1/M2 running on Asahi Linux with Mesa's Rusticl driver has become the first listed conformant implementation of OpenCL 3.1, just over two months after the spec was announced. Rusticl is a generic OpenCL implementation targeting Mesa Gallium3D drivers, developed by Karol Herbst of Red Hat. AMD/radeonsi and zink conformance submissions are also in the pipeline. This marks a notable reversal from over a decade ago when the open-source Linux graphics stack consistently lagged behind major hardware vendors in supporting newer OpenGL and OpenCL versions.
