Kill switch fears now rival ransomware as a top security risk for European businesses, Proton study finds

A Proton-commissioned survey of 1,500 European business decision-makers finds that concern about a government-imposed 'kill switch' cutting off access to US cloud providers (73.9%) has reached near parity with ransomware fears (74.9%). Over half of businesses could survive only one day or less without their cloud services, yet only 44% have a documented and regularly tested continuity plan. Financial exposure is significant — 28.7% of large businesses expect losses exceeding €100,000 per day of downtime. Proton argues that traditional backup vendors don't solve the problem if they're also US-owned, and promotes pre-provisioned failover on European infrastructure as a jurisdictional hedge.
