# Kudos Now Recognizes Whole Teams

**[openSUSE](https://daily.dev/sources/opensuse)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

The openSUSE Kudos platform added team support, letting contributors thank whole teams instead of only individuals they happen to know. Teams get their own roster page, members can join or start teams without admin approval, and teams can invite people directly. Teams can be linked to a badge (admin-approved to prevent abuse) so all members automatically receive it, and future badge earners are auto-added to the team. Badges persist for former members, who remain listed as alumni.

## Questions this post answers

### How do teams work in the openSUSE Kudos recognition platform?

Kudos now lets contributors thank entire teams instead of only named individuals. Teams appear alongside people in the recipient picker and can be combined with individual shoutouts in one kudo. Every team has a roster page, members can join or start a team without admin approval, and unanswered join requests auto-approve after 14 days since teams have no owner or manager role.

### How do badges get linked to teams in openSUSE Kudos?

Linking a badge to a team requires admin approval, unlike joining or creating a team which needs none. This prevents a new team from claiming an existing badge, such as the Tumbleweed contributor badge, and instantly gaining hundreds of unaffiliated members. Once linked, every team member receives the badge, and anyone who later earns it elsewhere is automatically added to the team roster.

_Contributors managing community badges and recognition systems can follow these governance patterns on daily.dev._
