MIT researcher Areg Danagoulian describes how nuclear material interacts with energetic particles in the Van Allen belt through proton-induced neutron spallation, producing a detectable neutron signature. Each inspector satellite would carry a dual-detector system combining a neutron scintillator and a diamond detector to filter out background radiation and pinpoint neutron sources. A single satellite would need about a week at roughly 4 km distance to confirm a nuke; a 10-satellite constellation could do it in hours.
