V8's optimizing compiler, Turbofan, used Sea of Nodes but has transitioned back to a traditional Control-Flow Graph (CFG) Intermediate Representation, named Turboshaft. This switch was driven by the difficulties and limitations encountered with Sea of Nodes, including complexity, inefficiency, and slow compile times. Turboshaft promises better performance, easier bug investigations, and simpler compiler code.
