The headline feature is 36 new native PHP attributes covering Eloquent models, queue jobs, Artisan commands, and routing — usable as an opt-in alternative to traditional class properties. The first-party AI SDK (text generation, tool-calling, embeddings, vector store) is now officially stable, as is native JSON:API resource support. New additions include semantic/vector search via pgvector for PostgreSQL, centralized queue routing with Queue::route(), and Cache::touch() for TTL extension. The Laravel Boost installer also gains an AI-assisted upgrade command as an alternative to Laravel Shift. Laravel 11 loses security fix support with this release. ## Content Laravel 13 is out, and it follows the framework's usual pattern: minimal breaking changes, a handful of genuinely useful additions, and a bumped minimum PHP version. This time that means PHP 8.3 or higher. ## PHP version and support timeline PHP 8.3 is now the floor. Laravel 11 also loses security fix support with this release, so if you're still on 11, now's a good time to plan a move. Laravel 13 itself gets bug fixes through Q3 2027 and security updates through Q1 2028. ## 36 PHP attributes This is the headline feature. Laravel 13 adds 36 native PHP attributes as an optional alternative to traditional class properties. They cover a lot of ground: - **Eloquent models** - `fillable`, `hidden`, `guarded`, and related settings - **Queue jobs** - `tries`, `timeout`, `backoff` - **Artisan commands** - command signatures - **Routing** - middleware and controller authorization The new default `User` model in Laravel 13 starter kits uses these attributes out of the box. That said, traditional class properties still work fine - this is opt-in, not a replacement. Some attributes existed before 13 (`ObservedBy`, `ScopedBy`, `UseFactory`), but the new release expands coverage to 15+ framework locations. ## Laravel AI SDK Laravel 13 ships a first-party AI SDK. It handles text generation, tool-calling agents, embeddings, and vector-store integrations. This was available in Laravel 12 but is now officially stable. ## JSON:API resources Native JSON:API resource support is also now stable in 13, having been introduced in 12. If you're building APIs that need to conform to the JSON:API spec, this is now a first-class option rather than a third-party package. ## Semantic and vector search Laravel 13 adds semantic/vector search support with pgvector integration for PostgreSQL. Useful if you're building search features on top of embeddings from the AI SDK. ## Queue routing and cache improvements Two smaller but handy additions: - `Queue::route()` centralizes queue routing logic rather than scattering it across individual jobs - `Cache::touch()` lets you extend a cache entry's TTL without fetching the value first ## Upgrade tooling The Laravel Boost installer now runs after npm commands for better package detection. There's also an AI-assisted upgrade command in Boost that can handle version migrations - early impressions suggest it's a credible alternative to Laravel Shift for straightforward upgrades. ## What's still coming Teams and passkeys support in starter kits were mentioned but aren't in this release yet. --- Overall, Laravel 13 is a solid incremental release.
