OpenAI is internally testing a new subscription tier called 'ChatGPT for Science,' spotted in the web build. It is expected to be restricted to verified research institutions and universities, similar to how ChatGPT Teams and Enterprise work. The move aligns with OpenAI's broader push into scientific AI, including GPT-Rosalind — a purpose-built model on GPT-5.5 for enterprise-scale life sciences research, currently limited to select pharmaceutical companies and research institutions. ChatGPT for Science may bring similar capabilities to a wider set of institutions. No launch date has been announced, but an announcement is expected within weeks.
