That is, problem solving. Learn to exercise your brain by challenging it against difficult problems. These exercises do not have to be limited to technology. Find auxiliary avenues that you are interested in, for example, mathematics, philosophy, etc. Even something as common as a maintenance problem around your house may present itself as a great opportunity to develop your problem-solving skills. Oh, the TV stopped functioning? No problem, fetch a screwdriver and give yourself the opportunity of a new challenge. You might solve it, you might not. But that is okay because the purpose is not to repair the TV.
