# LeetCode Isn't the Whole Game Anymore

**[Tech With Tim](https://daily.dev/sources/TechWithTim)** · 1 min read · 20 upvotes · 3 comments

## Summary

Software engineers are urged to move beyond pure algorithmic grinding (LeetCode-style practice) as their only interview prep strategy. While companies still test algorithms, they're increasingly evaluating practical building skills and judgment. The advice is to deprioritize chasing new frameworks, which change constantly, and instead double down on durable fundamentals: system design, data, APIs, and testing. Engineers who spotted this shift early and adapted are reportedly earning more than ever.

> Agreed. A few platforms worth trying for interview prep:
>
> 1. GiveInterview.com , I’ve had a good experience with the interview practice there
> 2. Pramp , good for peer-to-peer mock interviews
> 3. Interviewing.io , useful for practicing with experienced interviewers
> 4. Exponent , solid for system design and behavioral prep
>
> Using these alongside LeetCode feels much closer to preparing for the actual interview rather than just optimizing for coding questions.

> Learning should **always start with fundamental** concepts, whether at university or through self-study. **Specific** languages/libs/frameworks should be used **only for practical work**. It can be even better to use a **pseudolanguage at first**, so students understand that the main ideas are more important than the syntax of one language. Once you understand the fundamentals, **learning a specific language** or framework can take just **a few days**
