Linux 7.2 will include a fix for a GPU hang and engine reset bug affecting Intel Sandy Bridge integrated graphics, a platform now about 15 years old. Intel engineer Sebastian Brzezinka identified the root cause — a fence error during heartbeat-triggered engine resets — and resolved it with a one-liner patch to the i915 DRM driver. The fix, which also addresses underflow issues and false positives from AI scanners, is slated for back-porting to stable Linux kernel series, benefiting users still running Sandy Bridge hardware.
