# Linux 7.3 Ready With CXL Type-2 Driver Support For AMD Solarflare NICs

**[Phoronix](https://daily.dev/sources/phoronix)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

The Linux 7.3 kernel merges the remaining patches to complete basic CXL Type-2 accelerator driver support in the CXL core subsystem, along with unit testing to catch regressions. The actual CXL Type-2 driver for the AMD Solarflare network interface card, enabled via the new SFC_CXL Kconfig option for the SFC9100 family, was picked up separately through the networking subsystem pull request. Preparatory patches for CXL port error handling were also merged, with the rest of that series expected to land in a later release. Either version 7.3 or 7.4 is expected to become this year's Long Term Support kernel.

## Questions this post answers

### What does the SFC_CXL Kconfig option do in the Linux kernel?

The SFC_CXL Kconfig option enables Compute Express Link (CXL) Type-2 accelerator support for the Solarflare SFC9100-family network interface cards. This driver support was picked up through the Linux 7.3 networking subsystem pull request, working alongside the completed basic CXL Type-2 accelerator driver support merged into the CXL core subsystem for the same release.

### What CXL-related changes landed in the Linux 7.3 kernel merge window?

Linux 7.3 completed the remaining patches for basic CXL Type-2 (accelerator) driver support within the CXL core subsystem, added unit testing to catch regressions in CXL type2 exported functions, and merged preparatory patches from the CXL port error handling series, though the rest of that error handling series was not ready in time and will land later.

_Follow kernel subsystem merges like CXL support on daily.dev when planning upgrades._
