Linux 7.3 will add sensor event support to the native hid-steam kernel driver for the original Valve Steam Controller. Previously, the driver lacked support for inputs from hardware components like accelerometers, gyroscopes, and touch grips — features already available via Steam and SDL. A patch by Vicki Pfau, now in the HID subsystem's for-next branch, adds roughly 200 lines of code to bring the kernel driver much closer to feature parity with user-space solutions. Additional minor improvements to the Steam HID driver are also queued for the 7.3 cycle.
