ARM Linux maintainer Arnd Bergmann has restarted a proposal to deprecate and remove a number of outdated ARM platforms and features from the Linux kernel, targeting early 2027 (likely Linux 7.4). The planned removals include board files not converted to Device Tree, iWMMXt FPU support, ARMv6/ARM1136r0, Cortex-M3/M4/M7 microcontroller support (stm32, imxrt, lpc18xx, samv7), the LSI Axxia platform, OABI/OABI-compat/NWFPE, and DEPRECATED_PARAM_STRUCT — a parameter originally scheduled for removal back in 2006. Big endian ARMv7 support is marked as BROKEN but not yet slated for removal. A similar effort was proposed in July 2024 but never materialized.
