Maine's Attorney General Office has taken its public data breach notification portal offline after fraudulent breach disclosures were submitted impersonating Discord and VRChat. The fake filings were automatically published to the public database before being discovered. VRChat confirmed the filing was a hoax submitted by an unknown entity using a fictitious employee name, claiming a breach affecting over 2.4 million people. The portal, widely used by journalists and threat intelligence researchers, will remain offline while the state reviews procedures to prevent future abuse. Companies can still submit breach notifications, but public access to disclosures now requires contacting the Attorney General's Office directly.
