# Make Your Own ESP32-Based Person Sensor, No Special Hardware Needed

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

ESPectre is an open source motion detector that uses an ESP32 dev board to detect human movement by analyzing Wi-Fi channel state information (CSI), without requiring cameras, microphones, or specialized hardware. The system works similarly to mmWave radar by detecting disturbances in wireless signals when people move, can penetrate walls unlike PIR sensors, and integrates with Home Assistant. A browser-based demo game lets users test the sensor's capabilities via USB connection.
