# Making A Robot To Serve Some Mean Badminton Shuttlecocks

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

A maker converted a small Denso VS050 industrial robotic arm into a badminton shuttlecock-serving robot, aiming to solve the problem that badminton normally requires two players. The build uses a pneumatic grabber to pick shuttlecocks from a hopper and feed them into spinning launch wheels, controlled by an ATmega AVR microcontroller chosen over a Raspberry Pi Pico for its input-output capabilities. Extensive 3D printing and testing went into finding the right disc material (3D printed plastic with a silicone gripping strip) for consistent, well-balanced shuttlecock launches.
