# Manus 2.0 ships Cue, Studio, and a new agent architecture

**[Collections](https://daily.dev/sources/collections)** · 3 min read · 1 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Manus announced Manus 2.0, a bundle of updates including Cue, a standalone app for persistent personal AI agents that each get their own email, phone number, wallet, and computer, and can run in parallel and communicate with each other. Manus Studio, the desktop app, gains a Video Editor, Alchemy, Game Dev tools, Remote Control, and Computer Use capabilities. Underneath, a new agent architecture called Cascade introduces Cloud Computers and event-triggered Automations aimed at making the system more efficient.

## Content

Manus has released Manus 2.0, a rebuilt agent platform, along with Cue, a standalone app for personal AI agents. Manus describes Cue as "an operating system for persistent personal AI agents," which is a deliberate step away from the plain chat assistant.

## Cue

Each Cue agent gets its own email address, phone number, wallet and dedicated computer. Agents can send messages, take phone calls and make payments within a set budget. They can also work with other agents in shared group chats on multi-step tasks.

@svpino liked the idea of running several persistent, specialized agents, for example one for research, one for writing and one for scheduling. Each would have its own computer, files and state.

## What else is in Manus 2.0

- **Cascade:** a new agent architecture. Manus says it cuts token usage by 23.2%, task time by 28.2% and cost by 32% versus the previous system. The figures come from one tested configuration, and Manus hasn't disclosed the details of that setup.
- **Cloud Computer:** a persistent environment for agents.
- **Automations:** workflows triggered by events.
- **Manus Studio:** the desktop app is now a fuller AI workspace, with a Video Editor, Alchemy, Game Dev tools, Computer Use and Remote Control, which lets you operate a desktop from your phone.

## Context

The launch comes after Beijing blocked Meta's $2 billion acquisition of Manus. It also lands in the same week Meta launched its Meta Enterprise Platform for agentic AI, and Cue is positioned against Meta's own personal agent, Muse.

## Security and governance questions

Giving agents their own credentials and money raises the stakes. Researchers at Salt Labs recently found a now-patched Manus vulnerability in which a single malicious email could hijack the agent. The attackers hid instructions using JavaScript obfuscation, which got past the guardrails and triggered code execution before any warning appeared. The researchers opened a reverse shell and found credentials for connected services such as email, cloud storage and code repositories. The victim never had to click a link or enter a password.

Salt Security's takeaway is that agentic systems need layered defenses beyond inspecting prompts and behavior, because once an autonomous agent has acted, detecting it afterward is too late. Analysts from Gartner and IDC have also flagged governance, data portability and credential management as concerns for enterprises adopting these systems.

A persistent agent with a wallet and a phone number is appealing. It is also exactly the kind of thing that makes that email attack more worrying, and I'd want to test both sides before trusting it with anything important.

## Questions this post answers

### What is Cue in Manus 2.0?

Cue is a standalone app within Manus 2.0 for running persistent personal AI agents rather than stateless chat sessions. Each agent gets its own email address, phone number, wallet, and computer, and multiple specialized agents (research, writing, scheduling) can run in parallel, maintain separate state, and communicate with each other.

### What does the Cascade architecture add to Manus?

Cascade is Manus's reworked agent architecture underlying Manus 2.0, introducing Cloud Computers and event-triggered Automations designed to make the overall agent system more efficient. It sits beneath features like Cue and Manus Studio, forming the foundation for how agents execute tasks.

## Community take

How the wider developer community reacted, aggregated from 3 discussions and 25 comments across x (as of 2026-10-02).

**TL;DR:** Reactions center on whether Cue's 'operating system for persistent agents' framing solves real problems like cross-session state, failure recovery, and audit trails, or is mostly rebranding, with recurring skepticism about product fragmentation between Manus, Studio, Cue, and Muse.

**Sentiment:** 20% positive · 45% mixed · 35% skeptical

**The case for**

- Some see the shift from stateless chat to persistent execution environments with file systems and state as the key architectural step for practical agent workflows.
- A few frame the OS-for-persistent-agents concept as the right direction since memory and continuity, not raw intelligence, are seen as the real gap in agent UX.
- Competition among agent products is viewed positively by at least one commenter regardless of a shelved partnership.

**The pushback**

- Multiple people question why features are split across separate products (Manus, Studio, Cue, Muse) instead of unified into one.
- Several ask pointed technical questions about whether persistence is real cross-task memory or just scheduled runs, and how failure recovery, idempotency, and locking work when agents hold email/phone/wallet access.
- One commenter is skeptical trust-wise, wanting an undo button before relying on autonomous deploys.
- One dismisses the release as a minor incremental build behind the renaming.
- One tester couldn't find a compelling use case to try it.

**By community**

- x (mixed): Replies mix cautious optimism about the persistent-agent architecture with skepticism about product fragmentation, unproven persistence claims, and trust in autonomous execution.

**Hottest debate:** Whether the 'operating system for persistent agents' framing represents genuine architectural progress on state/failure-recovery, or just rebrands existing features across too many overlapping products.

**Open questions**

- Does Cue's memory persist across tasks, or is persistence just scheduled runs?
- How is failure recovery handled when events are redelivered or an agent disconnects mid-task — is it idempotent, and who holds the lock?
- Can a supervised Studio task hand off into a persistent Cue workflow with its files, permissions, and audit trail intact?
- Is there an execution history or API for auditing what personal agents with email/phone/wallet access actually do?
- Why are Manus, Studio, Cue, and Muse kept as separate products instead of one unified system?

**Highlights**

> @svpino The transition from stateless chat interfaces to persistent execution environments with file systems and state is the defining architectural step for practical agents. Chat was an interactive demo; persistent workspace memory is what actually unlocks autonomous dev workflows.

> @testingcatalog 云电脑 + event-triggered Automations 这组合我会先问失败恢复：事件重复投递时是否幂等，agent 半途断线后谁持有锁？个人 agent 有邮箱/电话/wallet 后，审计链比功能列表更关键。Manus 这边有 execution history/API 吗？

> @testingcatalog The Studio/Cue split is the interesting product decision. Can a supervised Studio task become a persistent Cue workflow with its files, permissions, and audit trail intact? That handoff will reveal how unified the agent system really is.

> @testingcatalog Everything should have been in Muse. I don't get why they're keeping seperate products doing the same thing

> @testingcatalog the video editor is the one i'd test first, and i already know what i'd measure: tries per usable clip. mine was 2-3 with the last tool. features don't move that number 🥥
