A hands-on account of receiving an Agilent MSOX3034A oscilloscope and the first-day setup steps. Covers probe compensation — why 10x probes need capacitive matching and how to use the scope's built-in calibration square wave to tune the variable capacitor. Also walks through connecting the MSOX3000 to Python via pyvisa and SCPI commands, including setting time scale programmatically and decoding raw waveform data for CSV export. Notes that Agilent's own Python sample code exists but is poorly written, and calls for a higher-level Python library for these scopes.
