MIT and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts announced the Quantum Systems Laboratory (QSL), a new $25 million shared-use facility at MIT's Building 39. The QSL aims to be the first facility to integrate quantum computers, quantum sensors, and quantum interconnects under one roof. Funded by a $25M state investment matching existing federal quantum research funding, construction is expected to begin summer 2026. The facility will serve researchers from MIT and other regional institutions, support startups, and focus on applications in life sciences, defense, and advanced electronics including RF and THz systems. It will also serve as the physical home of the MIT Quantum Initiative.
