# Meet Nub: A Bun-like TypeScript Toolkit, Running on Node.js

**[Telerik](https://daily.dev/sources/telerik)** · 8 min read · 2 upvotes · 1 comments

## Summary

Nub is a Rust-built command-line toolkit that gives Node.js a Bun-or-Deno-like developer experience while still running applications on the standard Node.js runtime. It bundles a TypeScript file runner, file watcher, package manager (compatible with pnpm v9 lockfiles), and Node version manager into one tool. Unlike Node's built-in TypeScript stripping, Nub reads tsconfig.json path aliases, handles TSX and decorators, and resolves imports like an editor would, though it does not type-check code. The author argues Nub is a strong fit for projects using Bun mainly for TypeScript execution, testing, or package management rather than Bun-specific APIs like Bun.serve() or bun:sqlite, and points to Nub's official Bun migration guide for projects that need to move off those APIs.

## Questions this post answers

### What is Nub and how does it let me run TypeScript directly on Node.js like Bun does?

Nub is a Rust-built command-line toolkit that prepares TypeScript files, applies project settings, selects the correct Node.js version, loads environment files, and hands the transpiled code to the standard Node.js runtime. It reads tsconfig.json path aliases, handles TSX and decorators, and can manage packages, run scripts, watch files, and switch Node versions, unlike Node's limited built-in type stripping.

_daily.dev surfaces tooling comparisons like this for developers deciding between Bun and Node-based TypeScript workflows._

### Can Nub replace pnpm as my package manager?

Yes, for most cases, because Nub can read and write pnpm version-9 lockfiles, allowing a switch from pnpm to Nub for package management. A small set of pnpm features, such as pnpm deploy, are not yet supported by Nub, so projects relying on those features cannot fully switch over yet.

_developers weighing package manager migrations can track tooling trade-offs like this one on daily.dev._

### Should I migrate my Bun project to Node.js using Nub?

Migration makes sense for projects where Bun is used mainly for TypeScript execution, testing, or package management rather than Bun-specific APIs. Projects relying on Bun.serve(), Bun.file(), bun:sqlite, or bun:test require replacing those APIs, not just switching commands, and Nub provides a dedicated Bun migration guide for that scenario.

_teams deciding whether to move off Bun can follow runtime migration guidance like this through daily.dev._

> no type-checking is the tradeoff that'll bite someone eventually. resolving imports like an editor but skipping tsc means type errors ship straight to runtime, fine for a quick script but i wouldn't trust it as a build step on anything shared.
