The WordPress core team proposes merging a new `wp_knowledge` custom post type into WordPress 7.1, with Guidelines as the first feature built on it. Knowledge provides a canonical storage primitive for author-facing and agent-facing site content — guidelines, memories, and notes — replacing fragmented plugin-specific storage solutions. The feature includes a type taxonomy, REST API routes, a role-based access model, and a Guidelines Settings page. It is already operational in the Gutenberg plugin. The proposal explicitly excludes AI providers, retrieval algorithms, or memory architectures from core — those remain plugin territory. Feedback is requested before the API stabilizes at the 7.1 Beta 1 deadline on July 15.
