# AMD Enhancements and Comprehensive Updates in Mesa 26.x Releases

Recently, AMD has merged a series of performance optimizations for RDNA4 graphics cards into the Mesa RadeonSI OpenGL driver, particularly targeting buffer and image operations, MSAA resolve, and framebuffer clears on gfx12 hardware. These improvements missed the cut for Mesa 26.0 but are slated for release with Mesa 26.1, offering significant performance advancements for AMD users.

As Mesa 26.0 progresses towards its stable release, two interim release candidates have been pivotal. Mesa 26.0-rc1 saw the code branched under a feature freeze, paving the way for significant advancements. Among these were enhancements to AMD’s RADV Vulkan driver, which now includes video encoding capabilities and better resolve support. Additionally, Vulcan extensions have been expanded across various drivers, benefiting the broader open-source graphics ecosystem. 

Mesa 26.0-rc2 followed the initial release candidate, bringing essential bug fixes across AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel drivers. Despite a delay in the feature freeze to accommodate further optimizations for RADV, this version continues to fortify the stability and performance of the open-source OpenGL and Vulkan driver stack, in preparation for the final feature update.
