MIT's School of Architecture and Planning has moved into the newly renovated Metropolitan Storage Warehouse in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a century-old former storage facility transformed by architecture studio Diller Scofidio + Renfro into a light-filled hub for teaching, research, and public programming. The five-story, 500-foot-long brick building now houses the Department of Architecture, DUSP, the Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism, and the MIT Morningside Academy for Design. The project preserved the historic exterior while adding glass walls, expanded windows, and connective staircases. A ceremonial procession is planned for Sept. 8, with formal dedication Oct. 1 and public events Oct. 3 as part of MIT Future Fest.
