Meta has announced its first AI data center deal in India, partnering with Reliance Industries to build a 168-megawatt AI-enabled facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The facility will be powered by renewable energy and cooled using desalinated seawater, with Reliance providing end-to-end services from design to operations. The deal extends a relationship that began with Meta's $5.7 billion investment in Jio Platforms in 2020. The announcement is part of a broader wave of AI infrastructure investment in India, with Microsoft, Amazon, Google, OpenAI, and others committing billions to the country. India's data center capacity has grown from 375 MW in 2020 to 1.5 GW in 2025, with projections of over 8 GW by 2030. Meta also separately contracted nearly 1 GW of new renewable energy capacity in India through CleanMax and Fourth Partner Energy.
