Microsoft is investigating a known issue where third-party applications using OLE automation cannot launch Microsoft Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) or open documents after installing Windows updates released on or after June 9, 2026. Affected third-party apps include CCH Engagement, Zotero, Workpaper Manager, and dental software like Dentrix and Softdent. No fix is available yet; the recommended workaround is to open Office apps directly rather than through the affected third-party applications. Enterprise customers can contact Microsoft Support for Business for an organization-wide workaround. A fix is expected in a future Windows update.
