The flaw was publicly disclosed by an anonymous researcher known as 'Nightmare-Eclipse,' who has been in an ongoing feud with Microsoft and has released multiple zero-day exploits. While RoguePlanet requires local access and is not remotely exploitable on its own, it can be used as a post-compromise tool to escalate privileges to SYSTEM level, tamper with security products, dump credentials, and establish persistence. Exploitation status remains uncertain — Microsoft says it hasn't been exploited, but Qualys reported active attacks.
