# Miniaturizing The Atari 2600 Console

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 1 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

A hobbyist named Nick is building a miniaturized version of the Atari 2600 console using as much original hardware as possible rather than emulation. The build uses smaller switches and buttons, omits the RF modulator, and includes a custom PCB that shrinks the footprint to less than half the original size, with the cartridge port relocated in preparation for an eventual handheld version. No original 2600 hardware was damaged in the process, and the project is a stepping stone toward a fully handheld system with an integrated screen, controller, and cartridge port.
