Mobileye, the Intel subsidiary known as an AV technology supplier, announced plans to launch its own robotaxi service in a U.S. city in 2027 with an initial fleet of 100 autonomous vehicles. The company aims to scale to 17,000 robotaxis over five years. A new operating business will be created for the service, using Mobileye's self-driving system and its Moovit app for consumer-facing operations. The move puts Mobileye in direct competition with some of its own customers, such as Lyft, which uses Mobileye's technology for its own robotaxi plans.
