Atlassian has launched Forge container services into Preview, allowing developers to run container images directly on Forge infrastructure as persistent web services. This expands beyond the original serverless functions model, enabling support for any language or framework that runs on Linux/amd64, long-running processes, and microservice architectures. Apps can now be deployed to production, published on the Atlassian Marketplace, and distributed to customers. Key features include a private container registry, blue/green deployments for zero downtime, restricted file system permissions, and observability via the Forge developer console. The feature is particularly useful for Connect app partners migrating to Forge without rewriting backends. Early Access saw 56 apps deployed and 500 deployments per week. Container services is now a billable capability, with general availability and Atlassian Government Cloud support planned for the future.
