When I first heard about GIS (Geographic Information Systems), I thought it was just about maps.
Turns out, it’s way bigger than that.
If your app deals with:

<li>deliveries,</li>
<li>GPS,</li>
<li>tracking,</li>
<li>heatmaps,</li>
<li>routes,</li>
<li>nearby searches,</li>
<li>farming data,</li>
<li>or even asset monitoring…</li>
</ul>
then you’re already touching GIS in some way.
What surprised me is how many industries rely on it daily:
<ul>
<li>agriculture,</li>
<li>logistics,</li>
<li>telecoms,</li>
<li>smart cities,</li>
<li>transport,</li>
<li>environmental monitoring,</li>
<li>and infrastructure management.</li>
</ul>
GIS adds another layer to software development:
not just what is happening in a system, but also where it’s happening.
And that changes everything.
Lately I’ve also been thinking about how powerful the combination of AI + GIS can become.
AI can detect patterns.
GIS gives those patterns location and context.
That opens the door to things like:
<ul>
<li>smarter farming,</li>
<li>better traffic systems,</li>
<li>predictive maintenance,</li>
<li>disaster response,</li>
<li>and real-time operational intelligence.</li>
</ul>
I honestly think GIS is one of the most underrated areas in tech right now, especially for developers building analytics, IoT, or enterprise platforms.
