# Most enterprises will hand root cause analysis to AI agents within two years

**[The New Stack](https://daily.dev/sources/newstack)** · 7 min read · 1 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Elastic's 2026 observability report finds 85% of organizations already use GenAI for observability, with that figure expected to reach 98% within two years. Thaddeus Walsh, Principal Solutions Architect at Elastic, argues enterprises are approaching an inflection point where agent-led investigations will replace human-driven root cause analysis (RCA). AI agents can autonomously monitor telemetry signals (logs, traces, metrics), interpret incidents, and change application configuration states. Beyond SREs and IT ops, non-technical teams like finance, sales, and compliance can also benefit from democratized access to observability data via GenAI assistants. Key barriers remain: fragmented observability ecosystems, insufficient documentation, and organizations still requiring human approval at every step of AI-driven workflows.
