DLSS 4.5 introduced new model presets (K, L, M) but most gamers are unknowingly using Preset K — the older first-gen transformer model — because Nvidia defaults Balanced and Quality modes to it for performance reasons. Preset L uses the second-gen transformer and delivers sharper, more natural images with better foliage and temporal stability, at a ~10% FPS cost compared to Preset K. Preset M sits in between but tends to over-sharpen. The recommendation is to manually override to Preset L in the Nvidia app for Quality and Balanced modes if image quality matters more than raw FPS, while sticking with Preset K when chasing high frame rates in demanding titles.
